Michael T. Wells, Esq.
Michael Wells brings more than three decades of experience in tax and business law to Strategic Counsel PLC. Distinguished for his representation of non-profit organizations, Mr. Wells also assists corporate clients with mergers, acquisitions, corporate governance and finance. He has extensive experience in the corporate cultures of Japan and Europe, and has established long-term relationships with international bankers, financiers and attorneys in both Europe and Asia. Additionally, Mr. Wells has represented the Internal Revenue Service as a United States Attorney, drafted key federal and state tax legislation, and saved taxpayers millions of dollars in the United States Tax Court.
A renowned tax authority, Mr. Wells has authored several books on taxation including I.R.S. Audit Techniques and Internal Revenue Service Collection Procedures, published by the California Society of Certified Public Accountants; and monographs published by the Beverly Hills Bar Association on California Limited Liability Companies and California Limited Liability Partnerships. He is a frequent contributor to leading publications including The Saturday Review. Mr. Wells has been listed in the Bond Buyer as an attorney whose opinions are accepted by issuers and underwriters of municipal bond financings.
Mr. Wells earned his juris doctorate at the University of San Fernando College of Law and his bachelor's degree in accounting and economics from San Diego State University. He was admitted to practice law in the State of California and the District of Columbia in 1971. He is a member of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California.
