Leonard Robinson
Over the years, Leonard E. Robinson’s knowledge and passion for everything environmental has earned him the moniker “the hardest workin’ man in the environment.” Mr. Robinson is now putting this ethic and experience to work for Strategic Counsel consulting clients to assist them in navigating environmental compliance in today’s world of ever-changing legislation, or raising the bar further to become major players in the Green Economy — benefiting people, planet and profit.
Prior to joining Strategic Counsel, Mr. Robinson was appointed by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to work for the Cal/EPA Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) whose mission is to protect human health and the environment. He was the highest-ranking African American at Cal/EPA, first serving as Chief Deputy Director and later as Federal Liaison. During his tenure, he was part of the team that promulgated the revolutionary California Green Chemistry Initiative, a policy to move California into a “cradle to cradle” society by providing a framework for safer consumer products.
Mr. Robinson also previously served as Environmental/Safety Manager at TAMCO Steel—California’s only steel mill. His responsibilities included compliance with prevailing federal, state, regional and local regulations; policies and laws pertaining to worker safety; and environmental protection. Mr. Robinson worked with the DTSC and Integrated Waste Management Board to start a program that recycled used oil filters into steel reinforcing bar (rebar) for use in the construction industry.
Robinson is the proud father of three college graduates, Ryan, Kyle and Lacy. He is driven by his deep spiritual beliefs, love for humanity and passion for the environment.
